JAPAN IS RAD! (August 29, 2016)

NOT IN PROVO ANYMORE FOLKS!
actually, I'm in a cute little church building in a town called MIYAKONOJO!! it's in the Miyazaki prefecture at the bottom of Kyushu! So I'm like WAAAYY south!

So we left Provo early in the morning last Monday. A sister forgot to set her alarm and didn't wake up! So the bus to the airport had to wait like 40 min.. so we were all kinda freaking and stressing cuz we wanted to not miss our plane to Japan ya know, call fam AND get CAFE RIOO!!

but no worries, WE MADE IT! :))

We first stopped in Portland, then straight to JAPAN! On the plane we all were moving around and trading seats and just talking to everyone! so it was way fun cuz I had like 5 different seat buddies! Nothing like being on a 12 hour flight with like 50 of your BFFS! i love them all!

When we got to Japan everyone kinda got seperated because everyone not going to the Tokyo or Tokyo South Missions had to catch a plane! So like no one got to say bye to anyone and it was way sad! Like Macfarlane and I didn't even get to say bye to our Choro tachi! It was way sad! But I did meet my brothers mission president and wife! that was so fun!
The 10 of us going to Fukuoka got on our plane and it was a 2 hour flight! We were all dead on the plane, so when we got to Fukuoka and our mission presdident was there to pick us up, we were all trying to be energetic but were all looked like we had been hit by a bus!! The airport is super close to the mission home so we got to honbu (mission home) and went to sleep! The mission home is actually the basement of the temple!! SO COOL HUH!?
Sister Egan, mish president's wife made a GLORIOUS breakfast! it was so yum!
Then we did like paper work stuff and orientation/ met the President, had interviews! I love the Egans! They are WONDERFUL! and their love for their missionaries is SO evident!
Around lunch time we got sent out with some missionaries serving in the area! Then later that night we went to Tenjin and street concated! Tenjin is this mall and in the past when I've visited Fukuoka we always go there! So it was weird going there and being like wait I was here one year ago! Then that night we went to the Fukuoka chapel and met our trianers and new areas!!
I was the first one called up and I got paired with Sister Shimauchi to MIYAKONOJO!!
Macfarlane shimai and Bradford shimai were assigned to Okinawa (an island in our mission, its closer to Taiwan than it is to Japan!) so they had to repack everything cuz you can only have one suitcase! The next morning we said our goodbyes and went to Hakata Eki (the big train station in Fukuoka!). That's like the transfer epicenter so all the missionaries transfering meet there to go to their new areas! So a ton of missionaries were there and it was fun to meet them! So many know Landy and were in the MTC with them! So it was so fun making those connections! Shimauchi Shimai and I had a 4 hour bus ride to Miyakonojo! It was so sad saying bye to Macfarlane and Perkins Shimai! They've become some of my best friends!

HAPPENINGS IN MIYAKONOJO!

1.So it's just Shimauchi shimai in our appartment! She's from like around Kobe Japan! I love her, shes so fun! Then there are 2 elders in our area too!
2.There's just a branch here in Miyakonojo!
3. I got my bike! It's black and red! RADDD. jk it was the only one that was tall enough for me!
4. Miyakonojo is pretty rural its so cute! rice fields EVEYWHEREEE **heart eyes*
5. Had an appointment with the Fukuokmoto family! Husband is a LA and the wife isn't a member + they have the cutest little girl!
6. We found a few people!! First one is Nagatomo! She's like 100!! We found her as she was taking her garbage out! We met with her this morning and she didn't remember us! She has dimesia which is sad! But she is the sweetest! And sooo interested! We placed a BOM with her!
7. Another lady we found was last night! We were knocking apartments! Fun note we usually start at the top then work our way down! We went to this one area at like 7 and it was dark and spooky! The apartment complex was soo scary and dark! But we found this woman! She has a family and was sooo interested! Heavenly Father is preparing people and we just need to be obedient and have faith and He will lead us to them! She is so prepared! We have a return appointment with her and gave her a BOM to read!
8. It RAINS ALOT! but it's so fun!
9. its starting to cool down here in Japan and it feels sooo good!
10. The mosquito's here are insane!! i am getting eaten!
11. WE COME HOME TIRED EVERYDAY and it FEELS SO GOOD! we are working hard!!
12. In lessons i have my "go-to" lines! but I pretty much sit and pick up on a few words! it'll come!

I love Miyakomojo! I love the people here! We'll be riding around and I'll see people and I'm like I LOVE YOU and I want you to experience the joy of this gospel!

week 8 & GOING TO JAPAN! (aug 17, 2016)

Today is 8 weeks in the MTC! On Friday we got our flight plans and it was basically Christmas in August! We're all so excited and our entire doki will be on the plane together, so that's like 90 missionaries all going to Japan! We have to be at the travel office at 6am and our plane leaves at 11! We'll get to Tokyo at 3pm Japan time then we'll take another plane to Fukuoka and get there around 8pm! It'll be weird to be in Tokyo and know my brother is there! There are also 30 missionaries in our doki going to my brothers mission so it's crazy to think they'll see him!!

Ok to start this email off, I have another kanji to share! Also I think kanji is the coolest thing because there is so much meaning in them! So this is the kanji for Japan- or nihon as they say it: 日本. A little side note, since Japan is like the closest country to the international date line, they're the first country to see the new day! So this kanji means sun source because they are the first ones to see the sun each day! Isn't that so cool!! Also, I don't study kanji hehehe our teachers just tell us these things randomly throughout the week ;))

(PS side note, THANK U MOM for the keyboard, emailing is sooooo much better/ easier now!! )

IM GOING TO JAPAN IN FIVE DAYS!!! 🎉🇯🇵😱😱😱 There are so many emotions- it'll be so sad to say bye to all the wonderful humans here that I've come to love! BUT I'm so excited to get to Japan and start working hard! Yesterday our teacher gave my comp and I a little lesson on how to ride a bike in a skirt! Let's just say I'm probably going to crash ALOT, but that's ok because that'll make for a nice story! 😂

Here are two things I've learned in the MTC that I know can apply to everyone's lives! 1. (As cheesy as it sounds) comparison really is the thief of joy! Nothing good comes from comparing yourself to someone else! I've especially had to remember/ learn this as I've been trying to learn Japanese! It's way hard to be patient, but just don't compare yourself cuz it'll make you sad! 2. I've also learned how crucial it is to rely on God and how crucial it is to thank Him daily for all our blessings. I couldn't do this mission on my own and I know that everything I do is because He is strengthening me. Alma 26:12 is a WONDERFUL scripture about this! Rely on God as your strength! He love you and wants to help you!!

Last night we had the wonderful opportunity to hear from Sister Oscarson who is the General Young Women's President! She's such a cute little lady and had great things to share with us! She shared a lot about how our missions will prepare us for the rest of our lives and how God has a special mission experience for EACH and every one of His missionaries. She shared Proverbs 3:5-6. This scripture has always been one of my favorites! God knows us so much better than we know ourselves. We were with Him for who knows how long before we came to earth. He created our spirits thus He knows what we need. As we have faith in that and put our trust in Him, I know He will bless us!

"When we're following Christ, nothing can go wrong". This is what our teacher always tells us and I love it so much. When we are doing what we need to be doing, we will be blessed. It doesn't means bad things won't happen, it just means that everything will be alright because we have the Savior of the world at our side there to bear us up.

Sorry this email is short! Today is really the only time we have to pack and get our stuff ready! The next time I email, I'll be coming live from JAPAN! 56 DAYS IN THE MTC wow im gonna miss this place! But not gonna miss dropping my lunch tray (yes that happened yesterday BIG WHOOPS!) 😎

I love you all so much! Thank you for your love and prayers! & good luck to my cute friends who will be starting college next week♡♡

week SEVEN & elder andersen came!!! + pics!

49 days in the MTC and only 11 left!¡¡¡!!! we will get our flight plans on Friday and it feels like a dream!! although i am chotto scared cuz as my sweet brother elder Pratt put it in his last email, my Japanese is not on par......

also I guess a lot of ipad missionaries are having problems sending emails, so I don't know if my emails are even sending WHOOPS!!!!

so yesterday night at our devotional, we knew someone exciting was coming because they were doing all this extra security stuff, then they told us the devotional was going to be a live broadcast to all the MTC's around the world, so everyone was way excited! And basically all my friends are still in MTC's throughout the world so it was fun

knowing they'd be watching it too! ANYWHO, ELDER ANDERSEN and his cute little wife walk in and such a rush of the spirit came along with them. It was so powerful and special. One thing he talked about was doing all we can to find the people God has prepared. I feel like there's this thought about how no one baptizes in Japan. Although God has prepared people in Japan and He trusts us His missionaries to find them. Elder Andersen shared some really great things about that and how we must BELIEVE and have FAITH that there are these beautiful prepared souls in each of our areas. God knows where each of His children are, and if we are faithful and obedient, He will guide us to them. And whether that means baptizing or just planting a seed in their hearts, we are bringing them closer to Christ & ultimately fulfilling our purpose as a missionary! It was honestly the most perfect talk as we round our last few days in the MTC in preparation to head to Japan. (Ps have I mentioned how excited I am to GO TO JAPAN IN 11 DAYSSSSS¿¿)

Macfarlane Shimai and I literally cry everyday thinking about having to say bye to each other and having to say bye to our cute lil district family. Also 2 of our 3 teachers are leaving this week to either get married

(!!!) and go to Disneyland (!!!!!!) so we're way sad about saying bye to them cuz they're our fam too.

I've lost count of the days I've had cereal, but probably like 80% of the time, I'm getting really creative and mixing different kinds lol that's what happens when ur here for FIFTY DAYS AND COUNTING

On Sunday elder Hollands son, President holland (pres of uvu) gave a BEAUTIFUL devotional about Joseph Smith. Basically about his life before he restored the church and the many trials he and his family faced. I have such a great love and application for him. & as I read the Book of Mormon I just feel so much love for him as he gave his life to bundling up the kingdom of God on earth. Every Sunday night after devotionals, we get to watch church movies, so this week ephriam's rescue and that had me balling! Such a beautiful movie though.

Sorry my emails are getting so boring and the days mix together so sometimes I don't really remember what goes on here except that everyday is a good day and everyday I learn so much whether it's Japanese of gospel related. My district probably laughs way too much but honestly thats probably what keeps us sane and what makes us all

so close!

Oh wait one more thing, last Wednesday we got to teach our FIRST SKYPE LESSON! Aw it was so wonderful. We taught this cute lil member ojisan (grandpa) and he had just gone through a divorce and was pretty lonely. It was the first time we were teaching like A REAL PERSON with real trials and struggles and he was so sweet and seemed so lonely and we just wanted him to be happy and the love for him was so real and so strong. I just wanted to everything I could to help him feel peace! He's active in the church and all btw, had an amazing conversio story too- joined in Japan when he was 21 then served a mission! We taught him about gods love and prayer and how we can find strength and comfort through prayer. It was such a beautiful experience. My love for the Japanese people is already so strong and ah I just want them all to be so happy!!! We have another skype lesson tonight and I'm so pumped!

Thank you everyone for the sweet emails! I hope everyone is so happy and having fun and staying safe!! (Oh and elder broke his hand a few days ago punching a volleyball.. stay safe and don't punch volleyballs!!!)

"demand not of yourself perfection, but improvement" -our cute teacher sister haderlie (she literally spits fire and I have an ongoing list of her quotes :)))))

week six!! (aug 3, 2016)

こんにちは みなさん!♡♡♡

Before I start off, I have s kanji to share! 祈り - this is the kanji for prayer or inori as said in Japanese! The meaning of the kanji closer to God. Which is exactly what prayer does! It allows us to be closer to God! Isn't that the most beautiful thing ever?!

Also a quick spiritual thought before too! Ok, so many of us know the story of David and Goliath. I've never read the chapters in the bible super closely about David's encounter with Goliath. but it says that before defeating Goliath, David was tested and tried in killing bears and lions. This ultimately prepared David for what was to come later with Goliath. So basically what I am trying to get out of this is that whom the Lord calls, He qualifies. God prepared David beforehand and God does the same for us in our lives. We all have Goliath moments when we have to do something hard, BUT God never sends us out to do something difficult that He hasn't prepared us for. God prepares us for our trials and never gives us anything we can't overcome.

Anyways! It's been another beautiful week in the MTC! This morning I finished the Book of Mormon! I just really love that book so so much. It is such a beautiful book because it testifies of our Savior. And I testify it is true. I know by reading the Book of Mormon allows us to receive divine answers we cannot find anywhere else. I encourage you all to read it! The end of the Book of Mormon is my favorite because it's when Christ visits the Americas. In 3rd Nephi 11, He lets them feel the nail prints in His hands and know that He is the Christ. I love that chapter and it is so beautiful!

On Monday morning our senpai (the japanese missionaries 3 weeks ahead of us) left for Japan! It was so sad saying bye to them but everyone here is so excited for them! And it's crazy that our doki is next to go to Japan! We also get 7 new districts going to Japan today! There will be 170 missionaries going to Japan! Which is nuts!! Macfarlane Shimai and I were called to be Sister Training Leaders which is basically the Sister version of a zone leader! So we'll be over a few of the new incoming districts and we're so excited!! Everyday at 7am, Macfarlane Shimai and I walk from our res to our classroom and we have this SPECTACULAR view of Squaw Peak here in Provo. It's all hazy/ foggy from the sunrise and it is the most beautiful thing ever!

So a few days ago we go into our lesson with our investigator Takaoka san. We're way pumped because we've come a long ways with him and had a great lesson planned. Halfway through our lesson he throws out that he doesn't believe Christ is his Savior and doesn't really get the point of why he needs Christ in his life. We were soooo sad and bummed because we've been teaching him for 4 weeks!!! By the way this investigator is actually our teacher pretending to be an investigator for our practice. it was still way frustrating though. BUT with our other investigator we invited her to receive baptism! She said "hai baputesuma o ukemasu". Macfarlane Shimai and I turn to each other while it's still processing in our heads that she said YES and we kinda both freaked out and were SOOO HAPPY!! Ps this investigator is also another one of our teachers! Happy day happy day!

Macfarlane Shimai and I played some volley ball this morning with some elders going to Denmark and Findland! That was way neat, and it's so fun to be meeting people who are going to serve all over the world! The MTC is such a fun and neat place and you are constantly meeting the nicest humans and making new friends left and right! Oh I also passed out during volleyball because it was so hot and that was fun, but no worries Macfarlane Shimai took good care of me while I got normal again! All is well though!! :):)

Everything is so great here! In 2.5 weeks I'll be on a plane to Japan and I'm kinda freaking out, but I'm so excited! Ah I just love this work so much and it makes me so happy! Also so so sorry for my confusing emails, hopefully over the span of my 18 months I'll learn how to better organize all my thoughts!!

I hope everyone is doing great and is as happy as ever!

Have a great week; 愛しています! ♡
